At Second Image, we will convert our clients' documents into
TIFF files, JPEGS or other formats, but most of our clients prefer their documents to be
converted into PDF format because of the many advantages that format affords.
Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format files (PDFs) are easy to store, view and
distribute. Too, PDFs provide reliable, secure access to materials and maintain the
legal integrity of documents. Second Image clients can manage their PDF records either
from a CD or online. Storing documents as Adobe PDFs is also beneficial because it
enables our clients to combine text files created in a variety of formats, such as
spreadsheets, images, and medical records, into a searchable, unified file.

Optical Character Recognition
By utilizing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, we enable our clients to
conduct quick and efficient keyword searches across documents. |
 |
 |
Copying Text
Second Image clients working with their PDF documents can select, copy and paste text or
columns of text and can also add notes and comments to these electronic documents.
This means that, since they are extracting in real text, there's no longer a need for the person
summarizing the records to manually re-type needed text. |

 |
Creating Bookmarks
Second Image clients viewing their documents as PDFs can set bookmarks to make navigation easy. They
can use bookmarks to flag important material for future reference. |
 |
 |
Highlighting, Crossing Out and Underlining Text
PDF technology also enables viewers to add comments and notes to documents records. |

Presenting in the Courtroom
Another advantage of working with PDF files is that these documents are easy to
transport, distribute and present. Because multiple document types can be combined
into a single Adobe PDF file, attorneys and their support staff can submit case
documents in an efficient, organized manner. For example, digital photos, text of reports,
and scanned medical charts can all be combined into an Adobe PDF file for review and to be
sent to courts.
Gone are the days when attorneys needed to prepare elaborate physical exhibits, such as
charts, enlarged photos and even X-ray films. Second Image clients can use the documents
we've prepared for them easily and effectively in the courtroom. PDFs can be projected
onto screens, allowing attorneys to point out pertinent information in the records, zoom
into photographs and analyze X rays for juries-all without the need for hard copies. |

Meeting Legal Requirements
For an electronic document to be admissible in a court of law, it must be created in a
file format that cannot be altered without leaving an electronic footprint. The PDF file
format is a "read only" document that cannot be altered without leaving an electronic
footprint and meets all legal requirements in a court of law. |

 |
Passing the Test of Time
Widespread use of PDFs in government and business for archiving and sharing
documentation virtually guarantees that the PDF file will remain a long-term format
standard. |
