Most afflicted with life threatening diseases are African-Americans and Latinos. Much of this is due to the lack of access to quality healthcare. The statistics show a higher incidence of death among African-Americans and Latinos due to AIDS, hypertension and diabetes.

One in every three African-American babies will become diabetic. The African-American death rate from HIV is more than three times higher than my other group; and, adolescent obesity is highest amongst African-American and Latino children.

Healthcare in the 48^th District
Affordable access to quality healthcare is vital in today's environment. Healthcare in the 48th Assembly District needs improvement for the community to be able to compete in the 21st century. The current system must be reformed to offer affordable quality care to families in the community.

		Our healthcare crisis cannot be solved overnight. Establishing a universal one payer Health Care System that provides for early intervention and basic Insurance Coverage will help solve the healthcare crisis.
		The 48th Assembly District must develop efficient community health clinics which serve all families and provide affordable access to the disabled and elderly. It would be optimal for the District to have three mobile clinics that can bring healthcare services to the sick, elderly, and physically challenged. Further, the District should also create jobs for healthcare providers and offer in-home supportive service workers for those in need.
		The state's Healthy Families Program which is already in place should be utilized more readily by the citizens of the District. The District must support and work to strengthen the Program.
